I’ve been singing as long as I can remember, and I love working with vocalists of all ages, genders and experience levels to better their craft. After all, we don’t have the luxury of buying a brand new voice, we have to learn to use the one we have!
Lessons are a half-hour, and focus on strengthening your vocal muscles while building confidence and musicianship. I can teach a variety of musical styles, though I am most proficient with opera, jazz, blues, pop, rock, funk, soul, folk, and musical theater.
Simply put, as a vocalist, you need to understand how to control the various muscles that shape your sound. A better understanding of how the voice works provides a singer with the tools they need to be versatile, and it is my opinion that versatility is key to succeeding in the modern musical landscape. When you study with me, you will learn about the different muscles that control the voice, and the effect each has on any particular style or genre that you're interested in performing, making sure you're able to confidently express yourself with your instrument.
Keyboard Lessons and Classes
Not everyone wants to learn piano to become a classical concert pianist. Most of us just want to learn how to play our favorite songs. The first thing they teach beginning guitar players is how to find chords, and how to strum. Why should keyboard be any different? My method focuses on chord and rhythm-based keyboard education, so that you can jump in and start jamming! Through chords, students learn all about harmonic and rhythmic relationships without the need for complicated sheet music. In fact, learning traditional classical music is often easier with a chord-based background.
Over the past 10 years I've taught theory to a wide variety of musicians of different skill levels in a diverse range of genres, and I consider it my mission to make theory more accessible for everyone - especially those who feel alienated by the classical learning methods.
I am able to reduce theoretical concepts to their simplest explanations, and I'll work with you to make sure your needs are being met.
Are you a self-taught instrumentalist looking for a deeper understanding? A songwriter/composer looking for new tricks and inspiration? A high school or college student enrolled in a theory class where you feel out of your depth? I can help all of these situations and more. My lessons are tailor-made to suit your needs, experience and personality. Theory is a passion for me, and I want to make it one for you as well.
